Identify the task that needs more light

Look at where the beam will land

Picture the screen tilt, glossy surfaces, a second monitor, and the area where your hands work. Leave space for the rest of the setup
A webcam, built-in camera, monitor control, or privacy accessory may need the same top edge as the light. Check the manufacturer's solution for that combination before ordering an adapter. Follow the cable route to its power source and confirm the stated power requirements. If the monitor moves on an arm, allow the cable to follow that movement without pulling on the light or blocking another connector.
Prefer controls that match your routine
Compare direct buttons, a separate controller, brightness adjustment, and color-temperature controls based on how often you will change them. Automatic adjustment may be convenient, but check whether manual settings remain accessible. A good trial includes daytime work, an evening with other room lights on, and the exact writing or typing task you bought it for. Decide whether it improves that task rather than judging the lighting effect alone.
